Last Breath of Snow

How does a deer experience the encounter with a human?

Making use of both digital and experimental analogue footage as well as the filmmaker’s own voice together with sounds of the forest, the film is an immersive imaginative journey into the consciousness and the perception of the deer and the ecosystem it is part of.

As a non-endemic species, one that was intentionally brought to Finland, the deer is more adaptable to climate changes than many other four legged beings. As such it can also be considered a liminal being, a stranger that freely moves between territories, and remains exceptionally sensitive.

“Last Breath of Snow” is part of Troubled Landscapes.
