grievers, oracles and one-eyed poets
32 x 49 cm, 2022–23
A series of 7 hand cut and assembled photo collages.
Archival Hahnemühle print on 300g hotpressed paper.
Edition variable of three.
Part of a body of works called Wretched Ground.
The collages originates from photographs of debris found in a tidal zone – remnants of marine organisms, plants, and synthetic materials altered by water, salt, and time. Cut and recomposed, this series of collages, inspired by symbiosis, speculates on new bodies rising from the waste matter. As Taru Elfving writes, they are, alongside “Warriors”, suggested as mythical figures in the present, proposed to function as shepards in the storms we have ourselves created.
